30-Day Challenge Day 15: Early Night, Catching Up

I was kind of exhausted at work today, so today I’m going to take a risk and bank on the wiggle day letting me catch up and call it a little shorter than I’d originally planned. The good news is I got these guys done:

(Also get a load of the new, but rather cheap, light box I picked up – it’ll take some getting used to, but it is at least a step up over nothing at all.)

And just for fun, here’s a “truescale marines, raar!” shot with a normal-sized human dude.

And although I didn’t get the black finished on the next guys, I got the gray down at any rate, so it’ll just be a case of pulling back the panels with pure black.

If I can do that and get at least a starter coat on the yellow tomorrow, I’d be able to finish up the yellow on Friday and finish up the models on Saturday. It’s only 4 guys, and aside from the inceptor’s jump pack there really isn’t a whole lot of yellow, which is what usually slows me down. Still in the realm of doability!

3 painting days ’til game day!

    1. Very lazily! 🙂 As you can see in the last picture, I do a very heavy gray highlight (it’s VMC german gray -> luftwaffe uniform -> sky gray -> white) then I paint over everything but the edges in a bout a 50/50 mix of black paint and black ink. That’s slightly translucent so it preserves some of the gradient towards the edges. I just find brush control is much much easier in this direction than trying to do tight edge highlights the usual way.
